May 2008: Get interactive about rapid prototyping - visit our blog on rapid prototyping here.

November 2007: Martello can now offer SLS parts in a new material: Duraform EX plastic SLS material. Parts can be black or natural and are suitable for many applications such as complex thin-walled ductwork, living hinges and snap-fit designs. The material is appropriate for low to mid-volume production or prototypes that need to display functional end-use performance properties.

October 2007: Martello launch new online SLA quotation form. Now you can get immediate costs for your SLA models straight from our web site. Click here to get an instant SLA quote now! (All you need is the volume of each part you need made.)

August 2007: Martello launch new look web site - Martello's new look web site went live in August 2007 with quick links to data sheets and services information.

06/10/06: Martello launch the new Thin-Rim™ Silver Club.

For more details go to our Thin-Rim® page and also check the site for our news releases coming soon.

20/09/06: Martello launch dynamic web site.

This web site now has a dynamic section which you can access by registering here or if you have already been issued a username and password you can login here.

This new addtion to the site enables you to upload your CAD data for quotation over our secure server, manage your contact details and preferences, and more. If you do not wish to have an online account anymore you can login and delete it.

15/08/06: Improved grade of watershed SLA resin installed

Martello have recently installed an improved grade of watershed SLA resin and are offering a 25% discount to customers on their first order of parts in the new resin. The new watershed resin gives more durable "plastic like" parts, with more consistant accuracy over both thick and thin sections. Parts are also crisper and have better clarity and transparancy.

In October 2004, Martello purchased their own SLA machine and are now building extremely accurate and high quality SLA masters in DSM Somos Watershed 11110 resin material. This service complements our prototyping low volume production capabilities, further enhancing the company's ability to deliver an all round range of solutions for prototyping and low volume production requirements.

Martello have also recently developed a production quality UV Stable polyurethane resin system. This is a breakthrough in PU resin systems. Until now, UV Stable PU were suitable for prototypes but had inadequate mechancial properties or too low a heat distortion temperature (HDT) for use as production parts.

Now, production quality parts are achievable with sustained UV stability over the whole of the products life with excellent mechanical strength and HDT properties.

This breakthrough is the latest in stage in the on-going development of Martello's unique rapid tooling process Thin-Rim®.

This material complements the V0 Flame Retardant rigid resin that was announced last year (2004) and the extensive range of elastomeric materials exclusively available from Martello.

A detailed article published in CAD User discussing low volume production is available for download here.

If you have products that need to have UV Stable caseworks for prototypes or low volume production please contact us for a quotation.

A Case Of Eureka……!!

The products of Primayer Ltd search for, and find with great accuracy, the position of leaks in water and gaseous systems. When the Primayer product carrying the name ‘Eureka’ was in its concept stage the search was for a manufacturing process to suit the market requirement of ‘low-cost ownership’, offered to new customers who, from time to time, currently hire the equipment. The product is specialised and required in low call-off quantities. A manufacturing process was required, therefore, that would deliver high quality products with minimal outlay on production tooling.

The Eureka is an advanced leak-noise-correlator for the accurate pinpointing of underground fluid leaks, prior to excavation. In the water industry the Eureka can be used effectively on all types of pipe - not only metallic but also plastic, asbestos cement and large diameter mains.

The intended working environment such an instrument is likely to be incident-fraught, demanding a high resistance to the legendary hazards of field operation. This, coupled with a need for weather and environmental resistance, meant that the case made would have to be robust and durable as well as cosmetically attractive...

The Pocket DAB

The Pocket DAB

Martello were heavily involved in the field trials of this product, designed by Roke Manor Research.  The pocket DAB is a new design of digital radio which is small enough to hold in your hand! It measures just 50mm x 76mm x 24mm.

Digital Audio Broadcasting offers a revolution in sound quality and will lead to the introduction of text, data and even pictures to our radios.

The pre-production series were produced in Martello's Thin-Rim® polyurethane resins using silicon rubber moulds generated from machined patterns. The casework and battery cover were manufactured in a robust "ABS-like" polyurethane, fully pigmented in a range of colours. The LCD windows were produced in UV stable, water clear resin and the key buttons in a tough, elastomeric polyurethane.

Although Martello use Rapid Prototyping masters for many projects, machined patterns were preferred on this occasion due to the fine details of the design and the requirement for excellent cosmetic finish. The patterns also ensured consistency between repeat silicone rubber moulds.

The DAB project is an ideal example of how Martello's Thin-Rim® technology can assist in the launch of a new design by delivering production quality parts quickly from low cost tooling.
